David Cousins Southern African sync licensing jazz artist featured at Ossia Records

DAVID COUSINS

David Cousins is a professional jazz pianist, composer, and arranger with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Cape Town and advanced studies at Berklee College of Music. A finalist in the SAMRO piano competition in 2005 and the FMR/Pick 'n Pay Awards in 2006, David has performed with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, playing his orchestral arrangement of Claude Bolling's 'Cello Fan'.

David has arranged and orchestrated for South African artists such as Marcus Wyatt, Elvis Blue, Die Heuwels Fantasties, and Karen Zoid. He has also contributed scores for festivals like Skouspel, Starlight Classics, and the Tshwane International Big Band Festival. His orchestral arrangement of Hugh Masekela's 'Stimela' was performed by the Metropole Orkes at the 2022 BBC Proms concert: “The South African Jazz Songbook”.

David's performance career includes playing keyboard for artists like Jesse Clegg, Jonathan Roxmouth, Gloria Bosman, Kabelo, Loyiso Bala, Ard Matthews, Tarryn Lamb, Refentse Morake, and Graeme Watkins. He also collaborates with top South African jazz musicians and remains active as a freelance pianist.
